Here’s his list, beginning with #10 (all prices are 2022 prices): 10. Everything else (things like resale value, ease of storage, how it transports).Performance (how well it pedals, motors or paddles).Rigibility (as easy to rig as possible) and Reliability.Stability (can stand, sit, land a fish without fear of capsize). Then he uses the acronym SCRAPE when offering suggestions to anyone choosing a fishing kayak: He also took into account the availability or lack of availability of these kayaks, including interviewing many retailers. These are boats that were on the market in 2021, covered in his early 2022 video.Ĭhad based his list on the kayak’s popularity on social media, Google searches and out in tournaments. Excellent fish mojo too as I lost count of the bass, crappie and bluegill I was catching on my last outing. In this video, Bending Branches ProStaff team member Chad Hoover gives us his opinion on the 10 best fishing kayaks for the money. ![]() Really, overall, a well designed kayak that I am really enjoying. Ok, the paddle holder in front is excellent because you can stick the tip of your paddle in there, make some casts and then easily pull the paddle back out for an adjustment.and it's not in the way when I pedal. It is SUPER stable and ergonomic with lots of nice features - room under the seat, rod holders, great bungies, spots for drinks, tackle box holders on side of seat, paddle holder in front. The kayak seat is a good height for me and very comfortable to fish from. The only downside is that one can't reverse direction but that's not that critical an issue as the kayak paddles very well so easy to adjust location and movement. The pedal drive is AWESOME - super light and easy to use and I like the pedal action on paddle drives more than my propeller drive. No need for my bed extender like for my 12 foot kayak. I can lift and carry it pretty far and it fits in the back of my pickup only extending a bit (~2ft) past tailgate when down (5 ft bed). I purchased this to be a very capable throw and go fishing and recreational kayak. Just work in making the pedal, pod, puck system, and a wider rudder better and this kayak would easily become the to go to kayak for many anglers. ![]() Very stable and everything is within reach. With that said, the kayak design, how much you can pack in a small size kayak, the weight of it (without) the seat, pod, and pedals, makes it easy to carry and load and unload. One last improvement would be making the rudder a bit wider. Because of the play from side to side, a screw on top of the pod that aligns right under the puck has chipped away from of the plastic from the puck. It probably needs a thicker gasket where the pod goes. No, you can't tight the puck any more or even adding some kind of spacer to the puck helps. I did not test the speed capabilities because, and here are the issues I had, the pod has about 1/4" play from left to right when you pedal. I have only use mine once and I did not have any issues with the sprocket stripping but that is because I pedaled slow. I have read many customers (FB Group) about having issues with the pedal sprockets. ![]() I'll start by saying that this kayak has the potential to be #1 among 10'-12' fishing kayaks if Vibe can work some of minor issues out. Super storage on deck, under-seat, and in the rear means you can take all your fave tackle and leave nothing on shore. A shallow-water anchor mount lets you bring your favorite anchor pole (not included). "No slip all grip" premium EVA foam deck pads provides stealth and stand-up comfort for easy fishing. ![]() Optional Summit Perch attaches to the back for a full 16-inches above the surf! Multiple gear accessory tracks and 2 flush-mount rod holders maximize angling and electronics options. The removable quick dry comfortable Hero Seat 2.0 has high and low positioning along with great all-day back support and unrivaled sight fishing height. The Vibe Rudder and steering handle means effortless turns on the skinniest waters. Vibe's industry-leading expertise forged the Makana 100 to be the most feature-packed, bite-size "choose your own adventure" kayak on fresh or salt. Best-in-class fishing stability and maneuverability comes standard, and the included quick-drop pedal pod means speed and wave-cresting power is always at hand. All adventure throw-and-go kayaking just got a new super hero.
